Science in the Now!!

Hello fellow science enthusiasts ($5.00 word up for grabs), during the April vacation, watch a science related show and write a review highlighting the main theme of the show and one exciting moment of that program. I'll also blog one of mines, too! Enjoy the break!

In an episode of Brink, experts at Rice University figured out a way to make water clean and drinkable. They invented nano wire paper. Nano wire paper obsorbs germs from the water, and it is impervious to water. They experimented by dropping water drops on the paper and it just rolled off of the paper. Nano wire paper could be the alternate way to clean water. They also placed the nano wire paper on some liquid and the nano wire paper obsorbed it. Nano wire paper is very cool.

I decided to watch "The Universe". A special episode of it called,
The Universe: Beyond the Big Bang.
I Previously watched this episode on cable television, but I decided to watch it again on Youtube(Here's the URL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOfP0iKNOCc
(Also It's in parts because youtube only allows a 10min limit)

It dose not have a theme really, more as a melody with scientific shots of parts of the Universe. The Most exiting moment was the whole thing! Every moment I learned something I didn't know before! I couldn't choose one specific one. Just watch it!

I watch on SpikeTV (the man's channel, Spartans!) So the show called "Deadliest Warriors" and the mem of the show is that they would match-up history's greatest warriors and through computer models and testing the actual weapons they determine who would win, if they actually met on the battlefield. This week they matched Spartans (like in 300) vs. ninja (duh!). I thought the ninja would win because you can't see them...until it's too late, but through all the testing and computer crunching, the Spartans won due to the fact that they are more heavier armored than the ninja, plus their weapons pack that extra punch. So I guess Ninja Gaidien is all true, slicing through steel?!?...ahhhh I don't think so, ha!

I forgot what the show was called..but I was watching a show one day about the whole world and predictions from scientists and stuff for when they predict the world is going to end. They had several ideas about how its going to come to an end like a infectious dieseas that's going to spread. Also even a big comet type thing that's supposively going to hit the earth and leave a huge crator that'ss going to spread fast and kill everything and leave the whole world in darkness because of the ashes and things left over. Then after years and years pass there will be a chance of life again. So I guess watching the whole thing was good to see all the different theories, but I don't really think it's going to happen..

Over the vacation, i watched a science show. I forgot what the show was called. The show was going over the dessert and how its important for us all over the world. & if something happens that it can effect us all across the earth. This was very interesting. They went over how the dessert's sand cleans the water of the desser's water. They also talked about when the 7 contentents where connected that the dessert had alot of water and now it does not. Did you know that the desserts sand travels through the carribean's shore and its sun sets on mami FL.? Well, i did not and i just learned that. The show went over more things. Like, how the sand of the dessert still has little water substance in it. Proving to scientist that before thier was water there. The show also talked that the village (near the Nile River) when snow storms the sand keeps burying the village. The heat in the Dessert is intense especailly now with global warming. This is not good. Because gobal warming is making the sand storm more strong. Gobal warming is also causing to make all the water rise up. & SO SO MUCH MORE.! (SO VERY INTERSTING.!) wow so many things happening that many people may not know that is currently going on!

The show I watched was called was how they do it. It started off by a guy named Jim he had to do missions. his mission was to put out the fire that was in the woods. What did he do? First he had went over a river and two filters had come out then he had to be very gentle or he would have been in a risk off crashing. so he slowed down the plane he was driving in and with in 15 seconds the plane had already picked up half of the water. the he headed over to the woods where the fire was located and with 1 drop of the water already 1 square mile of the fire was out. but it took a lot more then that Jim had to keep that up for 3hours straight.

One show I saw was about the Earth. I don't remember what the show is call but it was interested to watch. It talk about how the Earth would come to in end in the year 2027. The year 2027 is only 18 years left. An asteroid would come passing by and could do severe damage to the Earth. The damage could have an end to Earth. Its something scary to think about because you don't want to imagine your life coming to an end.

Over the break I watched the National Treasure channel. On the episode, they showed how to make gold rings. In order to make the gold they had to cut of the bark of some of the trees. Then cut it down until it was a a solid piece of wood. Then they heated it up until it turned into liquid. They carved a design into the ring and melted the carving into the ring. then dipped it into the gold. After the ring was dipped into the gold,it had to be heated so the gold wont drip off. So all together, the process took about 1 and 1/2 hours starting from scratch to make 1 gold ring.

Over the break I watched a shoe called the "Deadliest Warrior" on Spike T.V. The episode I watched was about the France Knight and the Pirate. In his episode it compared each warrior best weapon. For the Knight my favorite weapon was the Morningstar and the Haleberd. The Pirate weapons I liked was the old school shotgun also known as the Blonderbuss and their sword. After they researched the information they showed a battle simulation between each warrior. My opinion was that the France Knight was going to be victories but at the end the Pirate won. If you are interested in this show it comes on every Tuesday at 10:00pm.

In The Episode Weird, True, and Freaky people in Columbia South America they found a cure for baldness. The Cure is that first they put molasses on the client's head and let the cow lick it off then after a few weeks the hair starts to grow back and now they have a full head of hair.

Another episode is called Two Faced Cat and it is by Weird, True , Freaky. There was A cat born with Two Faces. This type of cat is very rare. The cats face is so separate that you can see two eyes, two mouths, and two noses. i was very surprised about this that my heart almost stopped.

The show that I saw was " weird, true and freaky" (asthma cure). In this show they eat a fish that has a yellow clay in its mouth. They have to force this down your throat. Then the process begins. Every year Indians line up for this treatment. This fish brings the clay through where the mucus is then it goes to the stomach where the clay stays to work its magic. After this treatment Asthma is gone forever.

Plus the theory of the ice age were dinosaurs died of cold temperatures. Plus they say that carnivores killed herbivores. Then carnivores died cause of the limiting factor of no herbivores.

The science show i watched over the break was called Nova. Nova is about how the world and it's gases can be used for a whole lot of things than you know. I learned that the gases in the air if it gets wasted it can kill all the chemicals in the oxegyn. The more it does that we won't have enough oxegyn to live.

Sharks are some powerful and quick animals in the water, not in land. The show about science that I watched was Mythbuster on Discovery Channel on the computer/laptop.It was about what types of colors do shark are attracted to.The one they loved the most or were attracted to was Yellow,Silver and White colors. There were like four sharks and all together they bite the bags 64 times. This results inpressed me and made me learn a new thing about sharks and the colored that they are mostly attracted to.In life we need to learn from our mistake to be bright and smart.

I was watching up on allot of scientific shows over the week. Onie thing that really sparked my interest is all the hype about how the earth is going to end. Personally i think its a bunch of bull. They get so desciptive about what's going to happen. LIke they showed how the asteriod will hit the earth and the dust debree and how the weather will change etc. Like I said I don't believe it but it's interesting to hear peoples thought's and imaginations on what may happen if anything. It all makes no sense and it's just more unecessary hype we DON'T need.

The television show that I watched was the discovery channel. The discovery channel talked about different types of animals. The one animal that I found most interesting is the cheetah. The reason why I found this interesting is because I learned a lot of different facts about a cheetah. The one fact I learned was a cheetah can run three times faster than a human. That’s what I learned on the discovery channel.

I had watched a show called Nova talking about Brain trauma. It says a lot about some one with a minor head concussion it is never just small. There would be some changes in the way your body works. Some traumatic brain injurys may last about 3 weeks. Most of them may last up to a couple years to forever. For example if there was an active child loves sports such as skateboarding or sking, you can wear a helment and all that but you can still injur your self. You can bang your head on your hement and the impact can cause trauma. But several trauma can be brain damage.

There are many science related things on tv. They are all very interesting. The show that i chose to watch was the discovery channel. On the discovory channel they were talkin about animals and how each of each other are affected by one another. For instince it was basically saying with out a mouse there wouldnt be very many things for it to eat instead of small birds. This eposiode was interestign to me bea=cause it helped me see how the everyday life for animals can change by the death of one another.
