This will cost you...

In a area in the Middle East called Dubai, engineers are building man-made islands and selling them to the highest bidder, going for more than 6 million US dollars. These islands are shaped into various figures like palm trees and a map of the world. These islands, however are made of hundreds of tons of sand and rocks, which some experts say may not be able to hold up against hurricanes and tsunamis(underwater earthquakes that produce HUGE tidal waves). This is not stopping those who can afford it, where there are people on a waiting list until more island are built. If given the opportunity to own one of these islands, would you move there even with the warnings of hurricanes and tsunamis? Is this a good idea anyways, building "man-made" islands in this area? What do you think?

I say its a good idea. But it is not good or worth it when the hurricanes and tsunamis will go there. Then it will fall or get messed up. Why pay 6 million and up of US dollars for an island that will get flooded. Ill rather have or buy a real island. Its a good idea but i think its a bad idea.

"Everything man creates carry the seed of its own destruction". No matter how much you protect it, it will be destroyed. People buy homes to have control over how they live and the land around it. Owning an man-made island is a temporary piece of land. Why would you want to stay in a place when eventually will be destroyed along with you. When a hurricane or a tsunami happens there will be no escape.

I think this is not an good idea to do that. Building islands will be a bad thing to do because it will lead to bad consequences. It is a good idea to think about that but many people lives could be in danger. There could be hurricanes passing threw the islands. There could be underwater earthquakes that could destroy the islands. If u live in the made islands its a risks. It is many pros and cons about this situation but I think this is a bad decision.

The island sound/look very cool but the consequences of living in one of these islands is very dangerous. I would not live in one of these islands no matter how nice it is. When the hurricanes and tsunamis happen it is very dangerous because "experts say it may not be able to hold up against hurricanes and tsunamis."

If i had the chance to own a island with the risks of tsunami's ad hurricanes i would not take take this chance. Even though it would be cool to have your own island. That you can run away to whenever you want i just couldn't go there. Because i know there is a risk that there could be a hurricane or tsunami whenever at any time. I believe this is isn't a good idea because its not safe. So i personally would not live there.

Anonymous said...

NO I WOULDN'T LIVE THERE BECAUSE IT SEEMS TO EXPENSIVE. ALSO IT IS TO RISKY. I DON'T WANT TO OWN SOMETHING THAT THERE MIGHT BE A HURRICANE.

Anonymous said...

i agree with every one that says they will not live there. I know i wouldn't either. just the fact that it will be messed up or flooded.

Anonymous said...

I agree with billy because why would somebody waste there time living on a island knowing that it is dangerous and it can lead to your death.

Anonymous said...

i think that i would not build a place in a area that have a lot of hurricanes. also i think that 6 million dollars is a lot of money. i that is a bad idea. i would rather to buy a realisland

My perspective is that I would hate to live in a island that riskable of having hurricane and tsunami's. I wouldn't want to die there. Really I don't know the point of building that islnd if very bad things would happen to it. It would just be a waste of time. The isand probably down bacause of all the problems. That's what my perspective is about this question.

i agree with people that say i would not live that because it is to much money and it would get mess up

There are almost NO hurricanes and tsunamis in Boston. Since theres no hurricanes and tsunamis, people should stay where they are and not move onto islands. If there are more islands and people move onto them, when the hurricanes and tsunamis come, move people will become homeless. Also, more people might loose their lives. By that being said, if I had the opportunity to move on one of these islands, I would not move there with the warning of hurricanes and tsunamis. I do not think it's a good idea. I think that they should build move houses in Boston for the needy and not islands.

People don't think when they are trying to make things. The reason is because they make island around a bad area. You have the fact that hurricanes and tsunamis hit that area all the time. so why would you have to deal with hurricanes why not just make island in a better area. That's why i wouldn't buy those island and just look at them so that is what i would do.

I feel that having your own island is pretty cool, but with the circumstances it changes the whole thing. I don't think any one would want to live on an island when they know they might die from what might happen. tsunamis are very dangerous and it leads to the death of many people.

When you pay attention theres a lot you can learn.Reading this article and hearing that man are making islands is really interesting.I would say it is not such a good idea to move on a Island made by man no matter how beautiful it is.Yes!! it is good to own your own Island and do any thing you want to do with it, but think about the danger you are putting your self in when theres a hurricane or earthquake? you can lose your life. I would have bought the island, but only visit there for vacations not actually live there because from what I know and have read it is too dangerous and risky.SO TO ALL OF THEM THAT IS MAKING ISLANDS THINK ABOUT THE DANGER YOU ARE PUTTING OTHER PEOPLES LIVES IN ,SO LEAVE THE ISLAND MAKING TO VOLCANOES. ITS MUCH SAFER.

buying a island is not Smart i mean what is the point of buying a island to protect people from a hurricane the hurricane is going to come regardless where ever that is my idea i believe that it is not a good idea

Anonymous said...

well I do agree with what stacey is saying, but its not clear what she is saying? Wether she will buy it or not is not really clear to me!!

Anonymous said...

its a bad idea because in the end the people who buy the island lose.

Anonymous said...

I agree with stacie because the tsunamis. They need to make it more safe to live and have more chances to have a better home.

Anonymous said...

No I would not want to move to one of those islands. I wouldn't want to move to one of those islands because when you think about it, it's mad dangerous. It's dangerous because knowing that many things happen in that area who would want to move there. The only people that I know that would move there are people that really don't care for the life given to them. No matter how nice the place might look/be, you have to look at the benefits behind it. It's a very dangerous place, as mentioned int he text "experts say it may not be able to hold up against hurricanes and tsunamis."

Anonymous said...

Everyone is intittled to there own opion. man made objects are hard to come by because.Honestly people are getting lazier by the minute. moving the island would be tremendously terrible because. Of the lives and animals at stake. plus that much money good lord that much money

Anonymous said...

I agree with Kayla because was she's saying is true. I would agree when she said that if someone was to buy one of those islands they should only go on vacations. They shouldn't live there because then they will be in more danger than whats expected. Many people die before time and when they least expect it. No matter how much you might like the Island don't risk your life for anything man-made and then end up dieing peacefully.

I say it's a bad idea. So much money for an island that can get flooded or destroy for nothing. If they want to build island, they should think how it will be effected.

Anonymous said...

I think that is a bad idea. The reason why is because they are spending a lot of money on this island, and they know that hurricanes can happen and mess it up.Why do they need to make a island if there are alot of island already.Thats why i think it a bad idea.

Anonymous said...

i would buy it.But then i wouldn't buy it.for example, there is a time when something can be destroy.another thing is how you would get something you wanted.i say that for many reasons.that's what i think.

Anonymous said...

I agree with rochelis she is right they are spending a lot of money on this island.even though i said the same thing. although that is a waste of money because a lot o floods would happen.

Anonymous said...

People with a lot of money have nothing to with themselves. So what they do is spend, spend spend. They don't think of the consequences that can occur when they buy things. The man made islands are not in a goo area. So basically the buyers are waisting their money. Where the islands are located they are not going to be able to survive on the island because of the possible dangers that can occur. For example HUGE tidal waves can occur, the islands may not be able to hold up against a hurricane, tsunamis, or an underwater earthquake.

Anonymous said...

I agree with everybody that said it's not a good idea or live there.

Anonymous said...

i agree with billy.one thing is how whatever you own it will get destroy.one thing is how when you own something people would do something to get the respect.

Anonymous said...

I don't believe that the "Man-made Islands" have the natural resources needed to maintain the same capacity as the other naturally made islands in the world.

Anonymous said...

I agree with crystal. I agree with her because i wouldet want to live on none of those islands eiher.i wodent want to live on none of those lands wen i no that they are dangrous

Anonymous said...

I would not move to that island. An island is not a place to live. It is a place to relax off work. If you live on a island, you could die by the storms. You would struggle to live on an island. It is not a bright idea.

Anonymous said...

I think that it is wrong for people that made those to sell them. because if a major storm hits one of those islands some one could die.& the island is only sand & rocks but together. so it could or could not be stable. the people that buy them should get a reinforced wall. made of metal to stop it from being destroyed.maybe it can help save more lives.

Anonymous said...

I believe it is a bad idea. I would never move on to those islands. The reason why is that they have hurricane and tsunami warning and the islands can be destroyed easily. I think someone would be stupid to by the islands for 6 million dollars. If i had all that money i wouldn't by an island i would get some land and build my own houses.I say I would by some land because it is stronger than land fill or man made islands.

Anonymous said...

To me I will never move to the man-made island.the island cost to much for me.In the island have warnings of hurricanes and tsunamis. These islands, however are made of hundreds of tons of sand and rocks, which some experts say may not be able to hold up against hurricanes and tsunamis. So any thing you make in the island it will be gone in a few mouths.that is why i will never live on that man-made island.

Anonymous said...

I agree with billy. His whole response makes sense. I like the metaphor."Everything man creates carry the seed of its own destruction".

Anonymous said...

I think that this is a bad idea. I say this for many reasons. One reason is because like it said there are hurricanes and tsunamis around that area and anything could happen. Another reason is because why would you put all that money into something that will one day go away. Plus another reason is because there was probably was a purpose for that area in the sea to have no land. Just think about the choices you make and think about the consequences that follow your choices that you made.

Anonymous said...

Money is a very valuable thing especially in this time. To spend millions of dollars on only one island. I think that they should spend it on something eles, like clothes.

Anonymous said...

some people would want to go but i would be scared because it dirt an stuff on top of water an people would wana go. the island can flood an all that an its dangerouz

cassie

Anonymous said...

I will not buy this island it cost to much. Why would some stay there any ways when hurricanes and floods happen. That is a bad choice to make a island there.

Anonymous said...

Either hate it or love it. Those island that are man-made is a disater for trouble. First Global warning is more a threat now with the water level more higher than ever. Then With the huricane and tsunamis warnning signs. Just come show do what you want to do.
