Words are powerful...

What do we remember the most about famous people after they have passed away? Their words and their actions. We remember Malcolm X for his words about black equality and the protests/marches he led to support these words. Dr. King was remembered for his sermons on non-violence and led marches around the country in the same way. We can also remember loved ones that have passed away and we still remember their words of wisdom, too.

This week's blog is very simple, write a inspirational quote about peace. You may use the Internet to search, use one of your own or from a loved one. Be sure to write down the name of whom the quote is coming from, so they can be properly recognized for their words.

These quotes will be used in our Science Fair project, Plants for Peace.

"Let there be peace in the world.
Let us all see peace and not war.
Let us all have peace in the world.
Let all our statesmen know no violence,
Let all love peace with warm vehemence,
Let all be clothed with passionate patience,
Let all respect peace with real reverence.
Let peace pervade every political terrain,
Let peace calm the spirits of every domain,
Let peace be at peace with every reign,
Let each achieve peace with poor pain.
Peace, to you we plead: come to us.
Peace, we entreat you: deign on us.
Peace, we want you: envelope us.
Let our homes be adorned with peace,
Let our streets be paved with peace,
Let our cities be set on a hilltop of peace.
Let peace taint our every thought.
Let there be peace, let peace never cease
Let there be peace, let war forever cease."

Give me peace so I won't cry anymore,
Peace so my soul can rest and have something left to fight for.

Give me peace so my heart can love,
Peace so I can can believe that there is good above.

Give me peace so I can rest tonight,
Peace so I can sleep, not searching for his image within the night.

Give me peace so I can go on,
Peace so I can be at peace within the dreams that I long

Peace comes from being able to contribute the best that we have, and all that we are, toward creating a world that supports everyone. But it is also securing the space for others to contribute the best that they have and all that they are.

Peace and justice are two sides of the same coin.Peace cannot be achieved through violence, it can only be attained through understanding.Even peace may be purchased at too high a price.He that would live in peace and at ease must not speak all he knows or all he sees.An eye for eye only ends up making the whole world blind. It is easier to lead men to combat, stirring up their passion, than to restrain them and direct them toward the patient labors of peace. The pursuit of peace and progress cannot end in a few years in either victory or defeat. The pursuit of peace and progress, with its trials and its errors, its successes and its setbacks, can never be relaxed and never abandoned.

For everything there is a season,
And a time for every matter under heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
A time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to seek, and a time to lose;
A time to keep, and a time to throw away;
A time to tear, and a time to sew;
A time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate,
A time for war, and a time for peace.

We will not build a peaceful world by following a negative path. It is not enough to say we must not wage war. It is necessary to love peace and sacrifice for it. We must concentrate not merely on the negative expulsion of war but on the positive affirmation of peace. We must see that peace represents a sweeter music, a cosmic melody, that is far superior to the discords of war. Somehow, we must transform the dynamics of the world power struggle from the negative nuclear arms race, which no one can win, to a positive contest to harness humanity's creative genius for the purpose of making peace and prosperity a reality for all the nations of the world. In short, we must shift the arms race into a peace race. If we have a will — and determination — to mount such a peace offensive, we will unlock hitherto tightly sealed doors of hope and transform our imminent cosmic elegy into a psalm of creative fulfillment.

-Mason Cooley

Today we seek a moral basis for peace.... It cannot be a lasting peace if the fruit of it is oppression, or starvation, cruelty, or human life dominated by armed camps. It cannot be a sound peace if small nations must live in fear of powerful neighbors. It cannot be a moral peace if freedom from invasion is sold for tribute.
-Franklin D Roosevelt

... peace is a militant thing ... any peace movement must have behind it a higher passion than the desire for war. No one can be a pacifist without being ready to fight for peace and die for peace.
-Mary Heaton Vorse

f civilization is to survive, the principles of the Prince of Peace must be restored. Shattered trust between nations must be revived. Most important of all the will for peace on the part of peace loving nations must express itself to the end that nations that may be tempted to violate their agreements and the rights of others will desist from such a course. There must be positive endeavors to preserve peace. America hates war, America hopes for peace. Therefore, America actively engages in the search for peace.

Peace of mind

Peace of mind
becomes a major goal
when left behind
are dreams of mine, but all!

Quiet nights and days as well
Won't come by magic touch.
First experienced hell,
with darkness more and much.

My angels have been ready
to take one step aside,
while I was still unsteady,
trying just to hide.

Once clouds start to fade,
and fate drops melt so kind -
my soul will leave the shade,
reaching peace of mind.

All These quotes are from Malcolm x. The future belongs to those who prepare for it today. Your not to be so blind with patriotism that you can't face reality,Wrong is wrong no matter who does it or says it.Be peaceful,be courteous,obey the law,respect everyone,but if someone puts their hand on you,send them to the cemetery.Nobody can give you freedom,Nobody can give equality or justice or anything,if your a man, you take it.Power never takes a back step only in the face of more power.Sitting at the table doesn't make you a diner,unless you eat some of what's on that plate,being here in america doesn't make you an american,being born here doesn't make you american.Time is on the side of the oppressed today,it's against the oppressor,truth is on the side of the oppressed today,it's against the oppressor,you don't need anything else.Usually when people are sad,they don't do anything,they just cry over their condition,but when they get angry,they bring about change.You can't separate peace from freedom because no one can be at peace unless you have your freedom.
